State-Tribal Collaboration Act (STCA) FY2018 Report

The department strives to develop tribal relations and further enhance tribal networks. By nature, DCA's mission to preserve, showcase and provide educational programs about our state's rich cultural resources makes it possible for practically every program throughout the department to touch on Native American communities and interests. In alignment with Senate Bill 196, the State Tribal Collaboration Act, DCA is continually seeking to enhance services and programs geared toward serving the state's tribal communities. This report describes those activities during FY18.

The New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) FY 17 State Tribal Collaboration Report descibes DCA's efforts to encourage and expand collaborative relationships and partnerships with Native American governments and the Indian Affairs Department. Native American tribal and pueblo communities have on-going relationships with the department’s divisions in the areas of arts, preservation, archaeology, museums, historic sites, and libraries.

Statewide Report Identifies the Economic Impacts of Arts and Cultural Industries

The New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs commissioned report, Building on the Past, Facing the Future: Renewing the Creative Economy, quantifies the current economic impact of arts and cultural industries in New Mexico and identifies challenges and key opportunities. The study, conducted by the UNM's Bureau of Business and Economic Research (BBER), reveals a $5.6 billion impact on the state's economy and challenges business, government, and non-profit sectors to harness strengths and address key shortfalls to fully realize economic potential.
