Laser Concerts Light Up Museum Planetarium December 14 - 21, 2018

(Albuquerque, NM) - Travel back to the sights and sounds of immortal musical groups, brought to life in laser light! Laser and planetarium projectors will fill the dome with choreographed light, allowing the music and images to envelope the audience. More than a million laser-generated hues and colors poetically express each timeless track. Laser concerts will light up the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science Planetarium December 14 - 21.

“We are only able to bring laser concerts to the planetarium once a year, and this time we’re especially excited to have the shows during the holidays and be able to present laser images with a live band,” said Jim Greenhouse, the Museum’s Space Science Director.

For a few select evenings only, songs from the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Rush will be featured in dedicated shows along with compilation productions with tracks from classic rock, pop, and alternative bands. Two albums of Pink Floyd will be presented in recorded shows on December 21, but on the very special evening of December 15, Dark Side of the Moon will be performed live with the laser by the band Pink Freud. Two classic mythological stories will be told with laser light animation each day. At 11 a.m., the story of Orion the Hunter’s epic battle with Scorpius will be expressed in exciting detail. At 3 p.m., come back to hear the tale of Perseus and Andromeda’s defeat of the sea monster, Cetus.

Finally, each day at 4 p.m., bring the kids after school for the fun, holiday-themed show, Laser Holidays 2. Laser characters, beautiful abstract patterns, and music create a joyous treat. The show features a variety of classics, including Winter Wonderland, White Christmas, Feliz Navidad, and 13 others. A somewhat different program, which is the original Laser Holidays show, will kick off a special laser family night at 6 p.m. on December 14 and features Jingle Bell Rock, Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree, All I Want for Christmas is You, and 12 others.

Laser Show Admission:

• December 15 live performance: $15 adults; $14 seniors and museum members


• Daily shows at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. & 4 p.m.; along with all shows the evening of December 14: $6 adults; $5 seniors and museum members; $3 children


• 6, 7 & 8 p.m. shows December 16 & 21: $6 adults; $5 seniors and museum members (these shows are not recommended for children due to adult lyrics)


• Buy two shows in the same evening (for example: Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall) and receive a $1 discount!

All regularly-scheduled 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. planetarium programs will be preempted by the laser shows listed above December 14 - 21.
