Come and Explore the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science

If you have been patiently waiting to once again learn about the dinosaurs, volcanos, and the unique natural and scientific heritage of New Mexico, then get ready.

The New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science (NMMNHS), a division of the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA), is excited to announce that it will safely reopen to the public on Wednesday, Feb. 17, in accordance with COVID-safe practices and public health measures to protect the well-being of patrons. Located just north of Old Town in Albuquerque, the museum will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday, closed Monday and Tuesday. NMMNHS visitation will be limited to 75 people at any one time.

When visitors return, they have another chance to check out “Tiny Titans: Dinosaur Eggs and Babies,” a traveling exhibit that boasts New Mexico’s unique fossils and addresses how dinosaurs gave birth and raised their young. Other exhibitions available include “Back to Bones.” This exhibit displays some of the recent discoveries and iconic fossils from our state that were collected by the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science. Also on display are “Time Tracks: A Walk Through Time,” “Emergence,” and “Bella the Bisti Beast.”

Online ticketing is strongly encouraged in order to facilitate entrance into the museum and minimize face-to-face contact. Availability is limited. Timed-entry online tickets, with the final entrance of the day at 3 p.m., should be ordered in advance to decrease wait time to enter the museum. No more than 5 tickets can be purchased at one time. Cost of admission is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors (60+), and $5 for children (3-12). Admission is free for children 2 and younger. New Mexico foster families are admitted free at all times. The Museum will continue to suspend its program of free admission for state residents on the first Sunday of the month.

The NatureWorks Discovery store will be open for in-person shopping during the same days and hours of operation as the Museum.

Performance spaces and theaters, classrooms, hands-on exhibits, collection areas, the Naturalist Center, and Fossil Works remain closed. The public will not have access to coat checks, lockers, or backpack/purse storage. Public programs, special events, and volunteer/docent activities will continue in virtual formats only. Reduced occupancy might result in a wait to gain entry. While queuing for entry, visitors should observe social distancing. Visitors will be required to wear a mask or multilayered face covering.
