Summer Youth Programs

The New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) is dedicated to continuing to provide educational, enriching programming to the children of New Mexico and their families throughout the summer.

All DCA’s annual summer camps will continue in a virtual environment. Exciting events and programs, including the first statewide summer reading program, will be available online. New Mexico’s museums, historic sites, and cultural institutions are creating fun, educational activity kits that will be distributed to families via programs throughout the state. Families can take advantage of the weekly Friday night concert series, “Our Fair New Mexico,” and a variety of virtual exhibit tours, fun DIY activities, and engaging video content can be found on Visit Virtually.

MOIFA
You can still get your share of folk art this summer as MOIFA continues to create art kits for kids. We have already created kits to be distributed from June until August. Some will be available for pickup in Santa Fe. Don’t forget about virtual Family Mornings @ Folk Art. Programing is scheduled for mid-June and July. Dates TBD.

MIAC
The Museum of Indian Arts and Culture is committed to engaging Native youth from surrounding communities. This year’s summer theme “Imagine Your Story,” will explore Native authors and community story making through onsite activities within tribal communities. Please continue to check back to this site as we will upload a series of ongoing youth activities.

Space History
What’s summer without summer camp? For more than 30 years, the New Mexico Museum of Space History has hosted its popular summer camp. This summer, due to stay at-home orders, the museum’s on-campus program has been replaced with a new six-week virtual program with online educators and projects delivered to cadets.

Natural History and Science
While the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science is temporarily closed to the public, Science @ Home is where you can find experiments, activities, and other resources for all ages to try at home.

New Mexico Historic Sites Virtual Summer Camp
Travel around the state virtually this summer and explore the culture, nature, and history of New Mexico guided by our eight historic sites. Beginning June 8 and running through the end of July, themed videos and activities will be posted online daily. 

Jemez/Coronado HS
Coronado and Jemez Historic Sites are excited to introduce “Summertime Fun.” This program will be inspired by the natural landscape and the cultural history of Coronado and Jemez Historic Sites. Activities will focus on what can be done around the home and with supplies at hand.
