Farm & Ranch Museum to open new photography show

November 27th, 2023

LAS CRUCES – New Mexico’s beautiful, rugged scenery is preserved in the images of Las Cruces photographer David Turning.

“Wandering Reflections” is an exhibition at the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum featuring 24 of Turning’s photographs. The show opens with an artist’s reception on Saturday, December 16 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Admission to the reception is free and refreshments will be provided.

The exhibit includes color and black-and-white images from Turning’s collection. His landscape photographs are rich with texture, featuring everything from the roughness of rocks, thorns, and tree branches, to the softness of clouds, fog, and sand dunes.

Turning says he simply photographs landscapes and other things that interest him. He grew up in Alamogordo where his passion for photography sparked when he "borrowed" his dad’s 35mm camera. In 2017, drawn by the expanded possibilities newer digital cameras provide, he upgraded from his pocket digital camera.

Embracing digital image processing, Turning mastered the intricacies of image manipulation and enhancement. Now retired, he finds joy in exploring nature and seizing moments through his camera, portraying them uniquely through his lens.

Turning’s show will be on display in the museum’s Arts Corridor through April 6, 2024.

The New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum is located at 4100 Dripping Springs Road in Las Cruces. For more information, please call (575) 522-4100.
